Toronto Stock Exchange and Nasdaq-listed HIVE Blockchain Technologies has ordered 1,800 Antminer S19j Pro miners from Chinese manufacturer Bitmain Technologies.
According to a press release, the deal was the first under the hardware procurement programme for 2022. The shipment will be delivered in six tranches of 300 units from January to June.
The devices are expected to provide a combined hash rate of 180 PH/s.
"This deal with Bitmain allows us to support our strategy of diversifying the manufacturers we buy from. Over the past year, we have raised concerns about the global chip shortage and logistics delays in shipping hardware from Asia due to the pandemic. We have close relationships with Bitmain, MicroBT and Canaan, which are leading global manufacturers in our industry," said HIVE executive chairman Frank Holmes.
The company said it keeps 25,000 ETH and 875 BTC in cold wallets. All of the bitcoins in the firm's reserves, estimated at $100 million, are mined using green energy.
Recall that HIVE acquired 3,019 WhatsMiner M30S miners from MicroBT in June 2021.
In August, the Canadian company ordered 4,000 ASIC miners from Canaan. This was in addition to the manufacturer's January contract for 6,400 Avalonminer 1246 units.
