Media: NFL and Dapper Labs to launch NFT marketplace

The National Football League (NFL), the NFL Players Association and Dapper Labs, the startup behind the NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties, plan to launch an NFT-marketplace. It was reported by Sports Business Journal citing anonymous sources.

According to the publication, the platform will be launched in January 2022. The NFL and the NFL Players Association will be among the shareholders of Dapper Labs.

The Flow blockchain-based marketplace will have similar functionality to NBA Top Shot - buying and selling NFT football-themed cards.

Recall that in September Dapper Labs closed a $250m funding round from Google and a16z. Its valuation reached $7.6bn.

In March, the startup raised $305m from NBA stars and venture capitalists, including Andreessen Horowitz, who also backed Dapper Labs in 2018 with Google and Samsung in a $15m investment round.

In 2019, Dapper Labs raised $11.2 million to build the Flow blockchain.

The team has previously partnered with the NBA, the UFC fighting organization, publisher Dr. Suess and Warner Music Group.
