Cryptocurrency trading platform Anycoin Direct has sponsored Dutch football club PSV for the next two seasons. As part of the contract, the latter will receive payments in bitcoin, according to a press release.
The amount of the deal has not been disclosed. According to ED, we are talking about around €400,000 per season.
"The payment in bitcoin marks the next step in the adoption of cryptocurrency in the European Union," said Anycoin Direct chief operating officer Lennert Vlemmings.
Earlier, football clubs Inter and Arsenal announced the launch of fan tokens on the Socios.com platform.
In August, the German Bundesliga partnered with collectibles maker Topps to launch the first collection of non-interchangeable tokens featuring the best players from the 2020-2021 season.
In the same month, BitMEX reached an agreement with Italian club AC Milan, under which the exchange's logo will appear on the team's uniforms.
Lionel Messi became the first footballer in history to receive fan tokens from Paris Saint-Germain as part of a signing bonus payment.
